Earlier in April, the Illinois Tech Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams volunteered at St. James Food Pantry. Team members spent a day at the pantry aiding in its day-to-day operations.
“The hard-working students of Illinois Tech unloaded a delivery, made up bags of groceries, and distributed food to our clients,” said St. James Food Pantry volunteer coordinator Rhonie Hendee. “They did wonderful work, and we want to thank them for giving their time to our Food Pantry!”
“We were so happy to work with the St. James Food Pantry and to further our connection to the broader Chicago community,” said Head Coach Kyllian Griffin. “The team loves getting out and about, and contributing to the neighborhood in which we are a part of was a very thoughtful and fun experience for many of the swimmers and divers.”
Helping make a difference in the community is something the Illinois Tech student-athletes thoroughly enjoyed.
“Volunteering at St. James Food Pantry was a very fulfilling experience to myself as well as my team members,” said men’s swimmer Tristan Busch. “We have fundraised for St. James in the past through many of our athletic teams, but to actually see all of the donations made going to those in need is very satisfying. It was definitely an eye-opening experience, which enlightened my teammates and I on the community we live in and the good deeds that are done to improve the quality of life of others.”
