The Ethics Center is looking for faculty and recent Ph.D. graduates to participate in an interview study examining power dynamics and power differentials in research lab groups.
This study aims to help the Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions at Illinois Tech and the University of Texas at San Antonio develop an increased understanding of power dynamics and power differentials in research lab environments based on the experiences of graduate students and faculty, identify events that can catalyze conflict, and provide resources that empower individuals to address issues of power to improve the experiences of graduate students and faculty. Power differentials can lead to significant challenges in training environments, but research in this area is limited. In this project, we seek to evaluate factors relevant to perceptions of power dynamics in research labs through a mixed methods approach consisting of interviews and surveys with faculty and recent Ph.D. graduates.
This project is funded by the National Science Foundation, award ID 2520736.
The interview study will consist of a 60- to 90-minute interview, with an optional follow-up interview session. Participants will receive $150 e-gift cards upon completion of the interviews.
If you want to participate or have any questions, please contact Dr. Elisabeth Hildt, director of the Center for the Study of Ethics in the Profession, at ehildt@illinoistech.edu.
