Illinois Tech’s Facilities Maintenance Department has done a full inventory and condition assessment of the 1,800+ trees on the Mies (Main) Campus. The majority of our trees are healthy and in good physical condition, though some were identified as needing removal. The removal of these trees is essential for maintaining the health of our remaining portfolio. The materials from the removed trees will be recycled on campus to make wood chips and mulch to provide nutrients for remaining trees and flower beds. Our overall goal is to improve our tree inventory and continue to enhance the campus atmosphere. This project reflects the fourth of six university-wide strategic priorities: “enhance IIT’s facilities, infrastructure, and environment. To learn more about the benefits of trees, click here.
