Illinois Tech Dining, operated by Chartwells Higher Education, is excited to announce a weekend dining update at The Commons, designed to better meet the dietary needs of our campus community.
Beginning Saturday, August 30, the Global Halal station is open for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. This change comes in response to student feedback and reflects our commitment to clearly communicating the availability of Certified Zabiah Halal hand-slaughtered proteins.
In addition, the Rooted station will also be open on weekends, offering a variety of vegetarian and vegan plant-based proteins, including tofu, Beyond Meat, and PAOW! alternatives, and more. Rooted also prioritizes Jain-friendly recipes, which exclude root vegetables.
Historically, the HomeStyle station operated during weekend meal periods. While it did offer Halal and vegetarian options, this update allows Illinois Tech Dining to more clearly highlight and expand access to these offerings.
What You’ll Find:
- Global Halal Station: Exclusively serves Certified Zabiah Halal hand-slaughtered proteins.
- Rooted Station: Features plant-based proteins and Jain-friendly recipes.
- Additional Halal Options: Other Halal proteins are used across The Commons, Center Court, and The Bog, though they are not Certified Zabiah Halal.
Illinois Tech Dining remains committed to providing inclusive, transparent, and high-quality dining experiences.
