The Illinois Institute of Technology Women’s Swimming and Diving team has earned two Players of the Week honors from the Liberal Arts Conference (LAC) based off the team’s performance against Carroll University on January 23. Delaney Shepherd (Women’s Swimmer of the Week) and Elly Shin (Women’s Diver of the Week) were both named by the LAC.
Just a freshman, Shepherd swam well in both events against Carroll. The Manhattan, Ill. native swam the 1650 Yard Freestyle, winning her first mile of the season at 19:40.31. In the very next event, she recorded a time of 2:12.33. Both times were narrowly short of her season-bests.
Also a freshman, Shin put together the strongest meet of the season. The South Korea native recorded her best scores in both the 5-dive and 6-dive 1m portions of the afternoon, posting a 117.55 5-dive score and a 144.80 6-dive score. Shin placed third in both events.
Illinois Tech Swimming and Diving will be in action next on Saturday, January 30 as the team travels to nearby Wheaton College for the Wheaton Quad. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
