On September 23, the installation of our brand new scoreboard was complete in the Keating Sports Center. That evening, Illinois Tech’s Women’s Volleyball put up a favorable result on the panels. The Scarlet Hawks defeated Lake Forest College in a thrilling five-set match.

How it Happened
- After two early points and a kill from Courtney Darling to start set one, the Scarlet Hawks were stopped by the Foresters. Lake Forest built a 5-2 lead and never looked back in the set en route to the 25-19 win to start things off.
- Set two was one of Illinois Tech’s most dominant of the season. The Scarlet Hawks hit a strong .368% while holding Lake Forest to a percentage of -.190. Illinois Tech started the set off with a 5-0 run and later went on a 7-0 run, ending up in a 25-8 win.
- In set three, Illinois Tech kept its foot on the gas pedal. The Scarlet Hawks racked up an impressive 16 kills out of 25 possible points in the 25-13 victory. Irena Grauzinis (five) and Jelena Vujicic (four) combined for nine of the 16 tallies. as the Scarlet Hawks closed the set out on a 13-5 run.
- Momentum began to shift the Foresters way in the fourth set, starting with the team’s 3-1 run to begin the set. Illinois Tech tied things at six, but never fully recovered from an ensuing 4-0 LFC run. A 25-17 win led the match to a fifth set.
- Jelena Vujicic almost single-handedly gave the Scarlet Hawks an early advantage, recording kills on the fifth set’s first three volleys. However, the Foresters went on a 7-1 to change the tide and build a 7-4 lead.
- Illinois Tech, though, would not be denied, going on a 7-2 run of its own to take a 11-9 lead. with the score later tied at 14, Grauzinis recorded an emphatic kill to take a 15-14 lead. Lake Forest answered back with a kill of its own, but an attack error and bad set by the Foresters on the next two volleys gave Illinois Tech the 17-15 victory.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Darling had an impressive match at setter, recording 38 assists, eight digs, two aces, six kills, and a .625 hitting percentage.
- Grauzinis led all players with 14 kills and also tallied 14 digs and three aces.
- Vujicic ended the match with 12 kills.
- Reya Greed led all players with five aces and 18 digs.
For the Foresters
- Brittany Avonts led the team with 10 kills. She also had a .391 hitting percentage.

- Illinois Tech hit .107% while LFC hit .096%.
- The two teams combined for 23 aces (13 for Illinois Tech, 10 for LFC).
- Lake Forest had 27 total blocks while Illinois Tech recorded just nine.
