2023 Internal Funding Opportunities Deadlines

The Educational and Research Initiative Fund (ERIF) Award provides seed funding to initiate innovative, multi-investigator, multidisciplinary research and education programs. The maximum award will not exceed $25,000. The budget is limited to tuition and stipend expenses for students, except for a small amount of funding (up to 5%) that may be allocated for supplies.

The Starr Fieldhouse Research Fellowship supports graduate students engaged in research that leads to cooperation between Illinois Tech and IIT Research Institute, the Institute for Food Safety and Health, Fermilab, or Argonne National Laboratory. A single application is considered for both the Starr Research Fellowship and the Fieldhouse Research Fellowship.

The Sigma Xi/IIT Awards for Excellence in Research recognize the exemplary accomplishments in research, scholarship, and creative activity by faculty members and graduate students.
• A $1,000 award is given to a distinguished tenured, senior member of the faculty who has consistently demonstrated extraordinary leadership in research and/or creative activity.
• A $1,000 award is given to a junior faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding potential in research, scholarship, and/or artistic achievement. Junior faculty is defined as an assistant or associate professor who has been employed by Illinois Tech for less than seven (7) years and who has graduated with a Ph.D. within the last 10 years.
• Up to two (2) student awards of $500 each are given to graduate students who have demonstrated significant promise in research and scholarship through their accomplishments while at Illinois Tech.

The Toprani Undergraduate Research Fellowship supports undergraduate students from India for summer research. The award will provide funding to one or more undergraduate student(s) in the amount of $5,500 for the summer.
