Clear your calendars – you’re invited to Undocumented Students and Allies at IIT’s 3rd Annual Coming Out of the Shadows event on Thursday, March 3 from 1-3 p.m. at The McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) Welcome Center (3201 S. State Street).

  • 1-2 p.m.: Story Sharing
  • 2-3 p.m.: Solidarity March on campus

Join us as we come out of the shadows as undocumented and supporting allies on campus. In 2014, Undocumented Students and Allies at IIT declared that #WeAreIIT. In 2015, we continued to denounce lingering fear within our community and defy a culture of rhetoric paying lip-service to inclusive diversity while disregarding student voices. This year, we are sharing our stories of struggle and persistence to show why the Illinois Tech community should #SupportUMII, the United Minds Inspiring Innovation scholarship initiative, and access to higher education opportunities for all. We are owning our identities in a space where we are still too often shamed and silenced for having them.

Come one, come all, and bring a friend. Support us as we hold Illinois Tech accountable to its commitment to be a place where talented students can seek knowledge and success regardless of their financial means, and show once more that we are no longer in the shadows, and that we are no longer afraid.

If you have not already, please like the UMII Scholars Fund page.

This event reflects the values expressed in IIT’s Diversity Statement and is intended to promote diversity at Illinois Tech.
