New Signees to Volleyball Team

Illinois Tech head volleyball coach Jacqui Gatt recently announced the signing of Adriane Walther and Katie Lyons to letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Tech this fall.

“Adriane is an extremely athletic player who has the tools to be truly successful at the college level,” commented Gatt.  “She’s a well-rounded player and has a solid foundation of skill. Look for her to compete for a spot right away.  I’m really looking forward to watching this young player develop at Illinois Tech.”

Walther earned four varsity letters at Northside prep while receiving Academic Scholar-Athlete in 2010.  Walther finished first on the team in service aces, kills, and assists as a senior.  She is also the younger sister Alyssa Walther who played at Tech during the 2007-2010 seasons.

“Katie is the complete package.  She’s a great athlete, a fantastic student and an extreme pleasure to be around,” commented Gatt.  “She brings a wealth of experience and a desire to play competitive volleyball to our team. She has great setting hands and will add depth to our line-up.   I’m very excited she has chosen to complete her playing career at Illinois Tech.”

While at Dawson, Lyons earned Academic All-Conference in 2011 and was selected to the 2010 All-Tournament Team.  Lyons led her squad in assists while averaging over 8 assists per game.

The Scarlet Hawks finished the 2011 season at 18-17 and advanced to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament for the seventh straight season.
