FDSN Seminar Series: Overview of Sensory Analysis of Foods

Join the Department of Food Science and Nutrition for this FDSN Seminar Series event featuring guest speaker Charles A. Sims, a professor food science at the University of Florida on October 7 at 1 p.m.

Sensory analysis is very important to the food industry and numerous research areas. This seminar will start by discussing how we detect odors and tastes, including some important genetic influences. The different types of sensory tests will also be discussed, including discrimination testing, consumer acceptability/preference testing, and descriptive analysis. Examples will be given for the use of each type of sensory test. Following that, Sims will share an overview of some of his research with sensory analysis.
