Dr. Jason Wan has been inducted as a fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) for his significant contributions to the field of food science. Dr. Wan serves as the associate director at the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH), director at the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA), and professor of food science at Illinois Tech. His induction took place at the 22nd World Congress of Food Science and Technology, organized by the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), held in Rimini, Italy, from September 8–12.
IAFoST is a prestigious group of elected food scientists and technologists, recognized globally for their expertise. It provides IUFoST with unbiased expert advice in the field of food science and technology. IUFoST is the leading global organization representing food science and technology, with members from countries worldwide. It is the only organization in this field elected to the International Science Council (ISC) by its interdisciplinary peers. IUFoST operates as a voluntary, non-profit federation, connecting food scientists and technologists across the globe.
In addition to this honor, Dr. Wan also co-chaired two sessions at the congress: “Hygiene and Micro 1” and “Hygiene and Micro 3,” and presented on “Preventive Controls and HACCP – Principles and Synergies.”
Before joining Illinois Tech’s Institute for Food Safety and Health, Dr. Wan was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Melbourne and a senior research scientist and platform manager at the Division of Food and Nutritional Sciences, Commonwealth Science Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia.
