A building design by Jun Guo, IIT Architecture Graduate Student, was selected as the first place award recipient in the 2014 Sustainable Versatility Design Competition sponsored by the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NELMA). Guo’s submission was for the design of a self-sustaining and environmentally friendly shelter house in the Chicago Parks District. The design was produced as a degree requirement for the College of Architecture’s Master of Integrated Building Delivery program under the direction of Studio Associate Professor Tom Brock and was subsequently submitted for the competition.

The Sustainable Versatility Design Awards, is a design contest for architecture, engineering and design students currently enrolled in an accredited architecture program to design a modern sustainable structure that uses eastern white pine as a principal building material. Judges looked for dialogue-inspiring, future-predicting, forward-thinking designs.
