Illinois Institute of Technology will be transitioning from Banner version 8 to Banner version 9 during the 2018–19 academic year. The need for this upgrade springs from the fact that by the end of this year, the Banner vendor will no longer be making improvements to version 8, and, as an added incentive, Banner version 9 reduces the need for major upgrades and makes patching much more efficient.
Office of Technology Services (OTS) staff have been diligently working on this Banner 9 migration project for some time, completely rebuilding the underlying infrastructure on which the Banner system previously ran. Illinois Tech’s network is now operating with new servers and greater storage capabilities that can scale for demand and capacity.
Banner 9 will have a new look and feel, with the ability to perform easier and more intuitive searches. The new Banner system is also mobile-ready, so you will be able to use it on your phone, tablet, and computer. You will no longer be restricted as to which browsers you can use to access Banner – Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer are all compatible. Further, you no longer need to be concerned about whether a Java update may impact Banner’s functionality.
As the migration project progresses, OTS looks forward to sharing more information with you about Banner version 9.
