Fred J. Hickernell, vice provost for research, is pleased to announce that Domenica Pappas will be promoted to assistant vice provost for research and Robert Lapointe will be promoted to director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs, effective Saturday, June 1, 2019.
Pappas has served Illinois Tech in OSRP for 20 years including nearly 15 years as director. In her expanded role she will support new initiatives within the research office, including improving cooperation and policies between the various university offices involved in pre-award and post-award administration, developing our export control policy, expanding undergraduate research, and growing resources for proposal development.
Lapointe has served Illinois Tech for more than 15 years including nine years as deputy director of OSRP. In his new role Lapointe will lead that office, which serves faculty by ensuring timely submission of research proposals, by accepting awards, and by overseeing non-financial post-award management.
Effective immediately, the Office of Research Compliance will be renamed the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance. This office retitling reflects Illinois Tech’s commitment to responsible and ethical research practices in concert with regulatory compliance oversight. Josh Hignight, who has served Illinois Tech for more than eight years and joined the research office last year, will continue to lead this effort.
