ACM-W to Hold Next General Body Meeting February 27

Illinois Tech’s Association for Computing Machinery – Women (ACM-W) will hold its next general body meeting on Tuesday, February 27 at 12:50 p.m., in Perlstein Hall, Room 108. All majors are welcome. The group seeks to make Illinois Tech a source of professional empowerment for women in tech and for all STEM students.

“Our membership has been doing remarkable things,” said ACM-W marketing chair Fatima Azfar (CS 3rd year/M.S. Candidate CS). “We recently hosted a show and tell in which one student gave a presentation introducing Amazon web services to our membership. Another student requested insight into her data analytic project that requires Python coding techniques to analyze medical statistics.”

Several members will attend the prestigious WECode (Women Engineers Code) conference at Harvard University in March. The two-day conference is dedicated to expanding the skills, network, and community of technical women worldwide. ACM-W is further developing its relationship with the professional organization WEN Chicago (Women Energy Network), for women and men working in energy. ACM-W also has hosted professional development workshops and given students networking opportunities through hackathons, conferences, and mentorships like these in the past.

“ACM-W’s aim is to empower young women to become leaders in all aspects of the technology industry,” said Azfar. “Activism, Community, Mentorship, For Women; these are our core values. While our membership is primarily women, we also welcome all other allies committed to helping more diverse voices in computing are heard and respected.”
