AD3I Honors Four Men’s Soccer Players

The Illinois Institute of Technology men’s soccer team has four student-athletes represented on the All-Independent teams from the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I). Sergio Calvo de Leon and Lucas Niehuns Antunes have been named to the First Team, while Bart Grabowski and Noah Griffith earned Second Team honors.

Playing both midfield and center back this season, Calvo de Leon proved to be one of Illinois Tech’s most indispensable players. One of only two Scarlet Hawks to play in all nineteen matches, Calvo de Leon tallied nine goals and six assists. His assist total led the Hawks and ranked in a tie for sixth in AD3I. The nine goals tied for second on the Illinois Tech team and eighth in the association.

Also earning First Team honors was Niehuns Antunes. The native of Brazil was extremely productive in his 12 matches, tying Calvo de Leon with nine goals while also notching four assists. The senior scored his nine goals on 42 shots and 23 shots on goal.

Grabowski, the team’s captain, earns Second Team honors after playing predominately on defense this season. The senior led an Illinois Tech defense that recorded five shutouts this season and allowed just one goal on three other occasions. Grabowski scored one goal and totaled two assists on the year.

Griffith earns Second Team honors after being named USCAA All-American Honorable Mention two weeks ago. The sophomore led the Scarlet Hawks in goals with 10 while also tallying five assists. His 10 goals tied for fourth in AD3I. He also ranked second in shots at 75.
