Katherine Darnstadt (B.Arch. ‘05) received one of this year’s fifteen Young Architects Awards from the national American Institute of Architects (AIA). The AIA Young Architects Award is given to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career. Darnstadt was commended for using her practice, Latent Design, to engage communities to pursue larger social, economic, and environmental goals. Also the director of the Chicago chapter of the non-profit Architecture for Humanity, Darnstadt has “seamlessly integrated her volunteer work into her professional practice with a model that strikes a balance between for-profit and pro-bono work.”
