Applied Math’s Jinqiao Duan Hosts Abel Visiting Scholar Summer 2018

This summer, Applied Mathematics Professor Jinqiao Duan and Illinois Tech will host Diem Dang Huan, a junior mathematician in stochastic dynamical systems and stochastic partial differential equations from Vietnam, under the Abel Visiting Scholar Grant. Huan will conduct joint research with Duan on effective dynamics of stochastic partial differential equations arising from geophysical modeling.

This program is sponsored by the International Union of Mathematicians (IMU) and is supported by a grant from the Niels Henrik Abel Board, the same board who awards the prestigious Abel Prize in Mathematics. It is designed to offer post-doctoral mathematicians who are based in developing countries and in the early stages of their professional careers the opportunity for a research sabbatical – a necessary complement to teaching and other academic duties for mathematicians desiring to also sustain a viable research program. Up to three grants are awarded per year.
