Armour College of Engineering Alumna Carmen Aguilar y Wedge Blends Engineering and Art with Prismatic_NYC Installation

overall8.jpgCarmen Aguilar y Wedge (CE, 09) and her company, Hyphen-Labs, recently finished work on an interactive art installation above New York’s High Line Park. The luminous-kinetic sculpture is comprised of 66 oscillating prisms that house over 40,000 individual LEDs. Each prism rotates and changes color in response to current weather conditions. Cloud cover, wind speed, humidity, and accumulation or intensity of precipitation, directly affect the amplitude, frequency, speed, and position of the generated and animated wave form that dictates the sculpture’s movement.
