Ankit Srivastava, assistant professor of mechanical materials and aerospace engineering, recently had a paper he authored in collaboration with a colleague from University of Cambridge published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society A. The paper, titled “Evanescent Wave Boundary Layers in Metamaterials and Sidestepping Them Through a Variational Approach,” describes an approximate variational approach to account for the effect of evanescent waves by determining the scattering coefficients without the knowledge of evanescent modes. The journal is the oldest and one of the most prestigious in the areas of mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering.
