Armour College of Engineering Associate Professor Matthew Spenko Co-Authors Article in Science

Spenko_news.jpgMatthew Spenko, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Armour College of Engineering, co-authored a paper that was recently published in the journal, Science. The paper, titled “Perching and Takeoff of a Robotic Insect on Overhangs Using Switchable Electrostatic Adhesion,” outlines how using electrostatic adhesion to perch a small flying robot on existing surfaces uses less power than would be needed for sustained flight. The research was also covered by several news publications including: BBC, Slate, and CNET.
