Marcella Vaicik (BME, Ph.D. candidate) was selected to receive the 2015 Scholar Award from the Midwest Region American Federation for Medical Research (MWAFMR). She was chosen for outstanding work on her abstract submission “The Extracellular Matrix Regulates Adipose Function and Expansion.”

Her submission was based on research she conducted at IIT’s Engineering Center for Diabetes Research and Education (ECDRE) with Eric Brey, professor of biomedical engineering. Vaicik received a certificate and award on April 24 at the 2015 Combined Annual Meeting of the Central Society for Clinical and Translational Research (CSCTR) and MWAFMR.
