Armour College Researchers Published in Journal of Power Sources

Shrihari Sankarasubramanian, a graduate student in Armour College of Engineering Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, his advisor, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Jai Prakash and collaborators at Toyota recently authored an article in the Journal of Power Sources detailing the use of noble metals and platinum and palladium alloys in lithium air batteries. Improving the capacity of rechargeable batteries is a key requirement for future electric vehicles and portable electronics. Illinois Tech researchers along with collaborators at Toyota have developed materials that hold the promise of providing three times the capacity of current batteries. The team hopes that the materials suggested in their work would pave the way for the practical realization of this technology.
