Dr. Brian Schaneberg, the executive director of the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) at Illinois Tech, addressed the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) International at its Midwest meeting in Chicago, held from June 3–5. Founded in 1884, AOAC International is one of the most highly regarded international associations of analytical science professionals, providing the platform, processes, and scientific rigor to enable industry and regulators to keep our food and environment safe. Dr. Schaneberg is a Fellow of AOAC International, an honor he received in 2017.
Speaking on “Biotics — Their Future & Challenges,” Dr. Schaneberg discussed both the future of biotics in improving human gut health and the challenges of ensuring their quality and effectiveness. With growing consumer interest in biotics and other areas of food safety, Dr. Schaneberg’s continued engagement with AOAC International is beneficial in advancing the food safety mission to protect consumers.
Dr. Schaneberg oversees a world-class, collaborative food science research institute, an FDA Center of Excellence. The Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) helps provide scientific information to the nation’s food companies and regulators, aligned with the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act.
