Bronzeville’s Historic “Stroll”, a Lecture by Illinois Tech Archivist Dr. Mindy Pugh

Before Illinois Tech, there was Jazz on State Street: Bronzeville’s “Stroll” in the Roaring ’20s. Dr. Mindy Pugh, Illinois Tech’s University Archivist and Campus Historian, will give a lecture on this topic.

Come see images and hear recordings as we join those who were here before us: Louis Armstrong, Joe “King” Oliver, Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Jelly Roll Morton, and the many others who hit their stride here and transformed New Orleans Ragtime into a new urban art form. Light refreshments will be provided.

WHEN: Thursday, February 20, 3:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: Paul V. Galvin Library, University Archives and Special Collections. The University Archives and Special Collections is located on the lower level across from the journals room in the back of the library.
