Call For Action: Illinois MAP Grants

As of present, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is unable to pay institutions of higher learning for Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grants because of a stalemate in the Illinois legislature. The Illinois MAP Grant Program and students across the state of Illinois need our help. A vast majority of institutions, including Illinois Tech, are unable to replace MAP Grant funding for all students who qualify for this grant. While the university will do its best to assist students in extreme situations, the university is unable to assist all students impacted by this lack of action from our legislature.

The Office of Financial Aid believes that MAP is an important piece of funding for many families, and we are encouraging every student (even those of you without a MAP Grant) to join the #MAPmatters conversation. Post about MAP, call Governor Rauner’s Office, and contact your state representative. Let’s show our elected officials how important MAP Grants are to higher education. Let’s push our officials to pass a budget when they reconvene this January. If we work together, we can make a difference in Illinois’ legislative process and bring back the MAP Grant to over 700 Illinois Tech recipients who count on this funding each year.
