Salary Negotiations

Do you know how to prepare for a job negotiation process, so that you don’t accept a job offer without understanding and discussing the salary and benefits? This workshop will teach you how to leverage your knowledge and skills to get the best possible compensation for your job, and avoid the most common mistakes job seekers make when given an offer. Specifically, this workshop will cover where to research salaries, what kinds of things to consider in this comparison (location, experience, degree, etc.), and how to review compensation packages like benefits, retirement, vacation, and more.

Got the Job Offer: Now what?
1-1:45 p.m. Perlstein Hall, Room 109
If you have a job offer: congratulations. In your excitement, you may be tempted to accept the job on the spot. The way you accept a job will set the tone for your career, so it is important to take the time to go over all of the details first. There are many components to compensation packages beyond the salary, including hours, healthcare plans, retirement packages, vacation time, and more. It can be overwhelming, especially if it is your first job. This workshop will talk about accepting a job and understanding the different kinds of benefits, including perks and red flags.

Co-ops and Internships
5-6 p.m. Perlstein Auditorium
Developed and led by Career Services and International Center staff, this workshop provides information on how to apply to co-ops and internships and how to make sure students are in compliance with federal law and immigration regulations. This workshop is mandatory for all students participating in a co-op or internship.
Upcoming Deadlines for Co-ops and Internships: Friday, May 1, 2015 is last day to turn in completed forms to the International Center to guarantee a Monday, May 18 start for internships, co-ops, and cco-op renewals.
