Research conducted by Andrey Rogachev, assistant professor of chemistry, along with his graduate students, has been published in a recent issue of the journal Organometallics. The project, which is a collaboration with experimentalists from University at Albany, University of Erlangen-Nurnberg, and Moscow State University, was featured on the cover page of the journal issue.
The project, titled “From Corannulene to Indacenopicene: Effect of Carbon Framework Topology on Aromaticity and Reduction Limits,” uses a combination of theoretical and experimental tools to investigate the electronic structure, reduction limits, and coordination abilities of the bowl-shaped polycyclic aromatic hydro-carbon, indacenopicene, for the first time. This hybrid theoretical/experimental approach opens a new path to directed construction of new materials with pre-determined desired properties.
