Students from IIT College of Science had the most winners of any college, and swept the poetry category at the 50th Annual Writing Contest, sponsored by the Department of Humanities.
Sanjin Ibrahimovic, a computer science major, won first place in the Mollie Cohen Poetry Prize division for “Chicago the Collection.” He also won third place in the Henry Knepler Freshman Essay Prize division for “The Ideal Life.”
Saja Hamayel, a biology major, placed second in the poetry category for “How I Died.”
Reno Waswil, a physics major, won the third-place poetry prize for “Lifecycle Marketing.”
Russell Betts, dean of the college and distinguished professor of physics, said, “I am delighted that our outstanding science students are also displaying these wonderful communication skills, which are so very important.”
