Core Curriculum and Course Numbering Updates

In March 2026, the university approved updates to the Core Curriculum requirements. These changes alter sections B and C of the Core Curriculum requirements. The new requirements will be in place for the 2026-2027 academic year. You can read about this change on the Academic Affairs New Policies Page.

Note that the majority of courses in Humanities (H) and Social Sciences (S) have been renumbered to support this change, and this is reflected in the course schedule.

For most students, this will not change the courses you take to satisfy the Core Curriculum. For some students, there may be changes in how transfer and AP credits are applied to degree requirements. This is especially relevant for those of you with AP, IB, or transfer credit, as some previously unused credits may now apply toward HUM 200+ and/or SOC 200+ requirements under the updated structure.

We are asking all undergraduate students not graduating this Spring to please review your DegreeWorks. Students completing their degree requirements at the end of Spring can disregard this message.

In some cases, courses may appear inconsistently in Degree Works, particularly because some H or S attributes are not yet attached to the new course numbers. We are aware of this issue and are actively working to resolve it. You can confirm whether a course satisfies an H, S, or C requirement by reviewing the Course Description link in the Browse Classes feature of the Registration Dashboard.

If you have questions or something does not look as expected, please contact your academic advisor.
