Develop Yourself Professionally for a Chance to Win a Starbucks Gift Card

Career Services would like to remind students that career success is built with careful preparation and by using all of the resources available at Illinois Tech.

Career development can be a formidable task considering the sheer number of ways you can approach your career goals. While there are many tools that will help you steer your professional and academic life to attain your career objectives, here are four things you can accomplish to prepare yourself for the job search

  • Update your LinkedIn – A LinkedIn profile will enable you to connect with alumni, faculty, and other students as well as professionals currently working in your field of interest. Using social media in the job search provides even new ways to access jobs currently available in the job market. Create your LinkedIn profile by registering at www.linkedin.com.
  • Create Your LAMP List – A LAMP list is a list of 40 employers that you are interested in working for. Stop by the Career Services office (Hermann Hall 113) and grab a copy of the 2 Hour Job Search to learn more about leveraging technology in your career development.
  • Practice an Interview – InterviewStream is a free tool available to you to help you practice for your next interview. You can record yourself answering some of the toughest interview questions and review your responses to help you prepare for your next interview.
  • Read A Book – Take some time to unwind with a good book that interests you. Employers love to hear about your interests and Career Services has a collection of some of our favorite wintertime reads. Stop by the Career Services office to grab a copy.

Don’t wait to begin your career development. Gain an edge in the industry by working on these four tasks.

The first 40 students to meet with their Career Development Coach and show the four completed tasks after the start of spring 2017 will receive a free $5 Starbucks Gift card. Download the checklist below and bring the completed list to your career coach after the break.

We have many exciting events such as workshops, company info sessions, employer spotlights, networking receptions, and career fairs planned for the spring semester and we strongly encourage you to participate in all these events.

Thank you once again for your support and engagement with Career Services. We want to continue creating positive, long-term relationships between students, alumni, industry, and the university.
