The Scarlet Hawks sent 14 swimmers and one diver to Oklahoma City February 27–March 2 to compete in the 2013 NAIA National Championship Meet. The team broke four school records and won two national titles. Illinois Tech’s men’s team finished fifth out of 16 teams with 291 points while the Illinois Tech women’s team finished 18th out of 19 teams.

The competition began with men’s three-meter diving. Illinois Tech’s Ian McNair won the National Championship title on the three-meter with a final score of 304.50. McNair came back the next day to win the National Championship title on the one-meter for the third time in his college career with a score of 287.60. McNair was also named the 2013 NAIA Male Diver of the Year.

On the first full day of competition, seniors Eric Grunden, Michael Bodzay, Matt Rosenfeld and Max Ramminger finished sixth in the 200-medley relay. Grunden broke the first school record of the meet in the 200-IM, finishing sixth. The following evening was rounded out with another sixth-place finish by the men’s 800-free relay, consisting of Grunden, freshman Kevin Boldt, Bodzay and junior Yoni Pruzansky.

Day two of the championship meet kicked off with some fast relays and a first-place finish in the consolation heat of the 400-IM by Bodzay. Pruzansky also raced hard in the 200-free, earning himself an All-American with a third-place finish and a new school record. Grunden received his second school record of the meet in the 100-breast, finishing eighth and getting his name on the board for the third time in his college career.

The last day of finals started out with two incredible mile swims by senior Aimee Dewante and Boldt. Dewante broke the school record and finished 12th overall, while Boldt dominated the consolation heat in the morning and finished in 10th place after a five-second drop. The four girls representing Illinois Tech squeezed themselves into the consolation heat of finals in the 400-free relay.
