Domestic Violence Awareness Month — Love Is/Isn’t: Understanding Healthy Relationships

Thank you for attending Love Is/Isn’t.

The Title IX Office of Compliance partnered with the Paul Galvin Library, Nichole Novak, and Resilience (Illinois Tech’s Confidential Advisor) to raise awareness about domestic violence.

flyerA whopping forty participants attended our Domestic Violence Awareness Month event last Wednesday: Love Is/Isn’t: Understanding Healthy Relationships. At this event, participants talked through complex and personal questions about relationships and dating violence, spoke with the staff in the Title IX office and Resilience, enjoyed pizza, made awareness-raising buttons, and contributed to our “Love Is” and “Love Isn’t” white boards. Nichole also created and shared a fantastic reading list on healthy relationships that you can access below. I encourage you to read one of the books on the list.

We’re very pleased to see the campus showing up for such important discussions, and we hope that the impact will extend beyond the individual participants to their classrooms, dorms, organizations, and beyond.

Join us for one more Domestic Violence Awareness event this October: a workshop with Apna Ghar, this Wednesday the 29th from 12:45-1:45 in the MTCC Pritzker Club. Apna Ghar is working to support survivors of domestic violence and end gender violence. They specialize in the support of immigrant and refugee survivors. There will be hot drinks, experts from Apna Ghar, and a unique opportunity to learn more about domestic violence and the role each person plays in its prevention.

In three photos, people create "Love Isn't" and "Love Is" white boards.

Together, we create our community! Let’s make it one we’re proud of.

If you or your organization would be interested in hosting Title IX to give a presentation, or if you’d be interested in collaborating on an event, get in touch with the Title IX Coordinator, Virginia Foster, at foster@illinoistech.edu.

Two white boards labeled "Love Isn't" and "Love Is." Words like "oppressive," "control," "enough" and "jealous" and under Love Isn't, and words like "patient," "unconditional," "empathy" and "eternal" are under Love Is.
