The Illinois Tech Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams each had a strong start to the season, winning dual meets at Beloit College. Recognition for the great performance is now coming to the forefront, as both Jasmine Duke and Brendan Howley have earned Player of the Week Honors from Collegeswimming.com for the Liberal Arts Conference.
Duke put together solid swims in all of her events, winning the 50 Yard Freestyle by more than a full second with a time of 26.26s and the 100 Yard Freestyle at 57.07s. The sophomore also took part in Illinois Tech’s 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team, which won with a time of 1:47.33.
In his first meet as a Scarlet Hawk, Howley won both the 50 Yard Freestyle (22.41s) and 100 Yard Breaststroke (58.73s) events, winning the 100 Yard Breaststroke by almost 10 seconds. The junior transfer was also a part of the 200 Yard Medley Relay team that took home first place with a time of 1:38.09.
The Scarlet Hawks are back in action on Saturday, November 5 as Loras College visits the Keating Sports Center. Live video will be available for the 1 p.m. meet.
