Build your portfolio and attend “Fire Safety Considerations in Building Design” seminar at 3:40 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 featuring fire safety and protection engineer Edward Prendergast in the Engineering 1 Building Auditorium.
Affiliated with the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, Prendergast will focus on fire safety considerations in building design and will discuss the importance of fire safety issues as pertains to building design professionals including engineers and architects.
Every year more than 3,000 people lose their lives to fire and some 18,000 more are injured. Among fire fighters, the number of injuries exceeds 81,000 per year. Proper design considerations and awareness on part of engineers and architects are effective in reducing the number of fatalities and injuries. Design considerations to be implemented include proper egress routes, communication systems and smoke-control panels.
This event is free and open to the IIT community. Refreshments will be served.
