External Affairs Welcomes New Directors

Please join External Affairs in welcoming two new directors to its growing team. Alicia Bunton has joined the department as director of community affairs and Janille “Jae” Miller has joined the department as communications director.

Bunton has 17 years of experience as an administrator of community-based programs for underserved populations that include the homeless, mentally ill, chemically dependent, and people living with HIV/AIDS. In 2012, she co-led an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign with the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Her efforts earned her a Golden Trumpet Award for outstanding achievement in community relations and the prestigious Edwin J. Shaughnessy Quality of Life Award.

Bunton received an undergraduate degree in English and Communication Arts from Villanova University. She completed her graduate studies at the University of Illinois in Communication Arts.

Miller is a communications leader with a solid track record in executive communications, public relations, reputation management and media relations. Miller previously held roles as company spokesperson for Nicor Gas and chief communications officer for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). She also spent nearly a decade as a television news reporter, most recently at Chicago’s Very Own, WGN-TV.

Miller has already made major strides during her time at Illinois Tech, having secured the installation of an ABC7 weather camera to be placed on the IIT Tower rooftop this week.

Miller received an undergraduate degree in Communications from Governors State University. She holds a Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia College Chicago.
