Several departments have contacted IIT Finance with concerns regarding the application of the Fly America Act to all air travel regardless of funding source. The university originally chose this approach, as it enabled us to include the costs in our indirect cost proposal.

However, based on these concerns, the Finance area consulted with several other educational institutions to ascertain how they have applied the Fly America Act to their organizations. In doing so, we have been able to identify an alternative that will allow us to only apply the Fly America Act to federally funded sponsored projects. In saying this, Finance will be distributing a revision to the travel policy to IIT’s faculty and staff in the near future.
