Dear Illinois Tech Community Members,

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an opportunity to recommit ourselves to Dr. King’s vision of equality and moral justice. He was an extraordinary catalyst for change, and his legacy reminds us of the power of collective action and inspires us in our efforts to forge a more just society.

Rooted in our noble mission to be an opportunity engine for all, this important day can help us honor the past, celebrate the present, and reflect on our role in positively contributing to our community and creating a world that lives up to Dr. King’s dream.

This year, we are grateful to continue our collaboration with Organic Oneness, commemorating Dr. King with a day of service at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School on January 15, 2024. I extend my deepest thanks to our students and staff who made last year’s volunteer event a success. For a glimpse into how you can contribute this year, please watch the video from last year’s day of service.

Service locations have been expanded for 2024, and we need 200 volunteers for various activities, including mural painting, assembling blessing bags for the homeless, organizing spaces, and beautifying Chicago Public Schools in Bronzeville. To participate, please register using this link and select “partner organization,” then enter “Illinois Tech.”

Let us use this opportunity to honor Dr. King’s memory by serving others and making a lasting difference in our community—honoring Dr. King’s legacy by recommitting ourselves to living a life of kindness, empathy, and shared responsibility to building a more just world.

Sincerely,

Raj Echambadi
President, Illinois Tech
