I-AIM Seminar Series: Data-Driven Design of Microstructural Material Systems by Wei Chen

You are invited to attend a virtual seminar by Wei Chen, Chair of Mechanical Engineering Department at Northwestern University, titled “Data-Driven Design of Microstructural Material Systems.” The seminar will take place on Friday, February 19, at noon CST via Zoom. Please see the Zoom link in the attached flyer.

This talk is a part of I-AIM Seminar Series, “Data Science for Materials Discovery,” co-organized by the MMAE Department. You may learn more at https://i-aim.weebly.com/seminar.html

Abstract
In this talk, we will introduce the state-of-the-art data science methods for designing heterogeneous nano- and microstructural materials and metamaterial systems such as polymer nanocomposites, light-weight composite structures, functional microelectronics, and solar cells. Research developments in microstructure characterization and reconstruction, machine learning of key microstructure features, and data-driven Bayesian optimization using mixed-variable Gaussian process models, will be described.
