Before the work day begins, join in a walk around campus to find and look at migrant birds on IIT’s Main Campus. The walk takes place at 7:30 am on Monday, September 16 on the steps on the west side of Seigel Hall. It will last an hour. A small number of binoculars will be available for loan, but walkers are encouraged to bring their own.
The campus serves as an urban oasis for birds going north in the spring and south in fall, and a nice variety of birds can be found here during the migratory periods. In recent years, IIT has also been home to a Cooper’s Hawk as its nightly roost site during the winter, and Peregrine Falcons find the IIT Tower a useful perch from which to hunt. A summary of the campus bird walk in May 2013 is available here.
