IIT Celebrates Black History Month

IIT recognizes and celebrates Black History Month. Black History Month in the United States is a celebration of achievements by African Americans and highlights important milestones throughout U.S. history. This year’s national theme is “Civil Rights in America.”  The campus community is invited to participate in the Black History Month events listed below:

Global Cuisine

The Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion invites you to dine in the Commons Cafeteria for a culinary treat. The lunchtime program for the month of February will introduce delicious meals from four different regions of the world. In partnership with African Student Organization, Black Student Union and Caribbean Visionaries, students from these groups have suggested the recipes for the cultural dishes.

· Friday, February 14 – Louisiana Cajun
· Friday, February 21 – Caribbean
· Friday, February 28 – Southern Cuisine

The Sharing Table – Introduction to “A Historical Glimpse of the Negro Baseball League”

The McCormick Tribune Campus Center Commons Cafeteria, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, Thursday, February 6, 2014.This event will serve as a tickler for the main event below.

A Historical Glimpse of the Negro Baseball League

David Shiner, Professor of Humanities and the History of Ideas at Shimer College will present. Galvin Library, 12:50 – 1:45 pm, Cherry Room (lower level), Thursday, February 13, 2014.

Light refreshments will be served. This event will consist of memorabilia and a historical overview of this great time period from Shiner. Hosted by the Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and Shimer College

Friday, February 7, 2014, 11 am  – 2 pm,  AIDS Awareness Day on MTCC Bridge. Partnering with GLAM, Health and Wellness Center and Howard Brown.

Thursday, February 20, 2014,  8 am – 10 pm.  Trivia Night in the BOG.

Friday, February 28, 2014, starting at 10 pm, Hermann Hall Ballroom.  Closing party celebration.
