On October 10, students, faculty, and staff gathered in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center to celebrate the launch of the new College of Science. The event gave attendees an opportunity to learn about the future of science at IIT, mingle with fellow College of Science constituents, and receive brand new College of Science apparel.
The launch was kicked off with a lecture, “Science, the Raw Fuel of Innovation,” presented by Russell Betts, dean of the College of Science. A panel discussion moderated by IIT Provost Alan Cramb, “Future Science—Challenges and Opportunities,” followed the lecture. Panelists included Peter Littlewood, associate laboratory director of physical science and engineering at Argonne National Laboratory, Dennis Roberson, vice provost and research professor in computer science at IIT, Carlo Segre, Duchossois Leadership Professor of Physics at IIT, and Shlomo Argamon, professor of Computer Science at IIT. The event ended with a reception, which was opened with a few words from IIT President John Anderson, in which students, faculty, and staff met, mingled, and received the newest College of Science giveaways.
