IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law Hosts Irish Delegation This Week

IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law is celebrating its new academic exchange with the Bar Council of Ireland by hosting a delegation of members of the Irish bench and bar this week. The following events are taking place:

Wednesday, September 11:

  • “A Brief Overview of the Irish Legal System and Advocacy in Ireland” is the topic of a discussion led by the delegation. The program, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 1-3 pm in IIT Chicago-Kent’s Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Courtroom. A question and answer session will follow.
  • The Irish delegation and a number of leading members of the Chicago bench and bar will “dine-in” from 6:30-8:30 pm at Chief O’Neill’s Irish Pub & Restaurant located at 3741 North Elston Avenue. Tickets are $50 for students, $100 for judges and government attorneys, and $150 for private attorneys. “Dining-in” is a tradition in Ireland dating back hundreds of years, where apprentice lawyers learn the intricacies of the profession by dining with senior members of the bench and bar, who are called “benchers.”

Thursday, September 12

  • Illinois Appellate Court Justice Michael Gallagher will serve as moderator and panelist for a discussion on “Arbitration in the U.S. and Ireland” at noon in the Heritage Room of the Union League Club of Chicago located at 65 West Jackson Boulevard. A full lunch will be served. Tickets are $40 per person.
