IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law’s Institute for Law and the Humanities will host a performance of “Truth from Youth” by the Albany Park Theater Project (APTP) at 5 pm on Monday, November 11, 2013 in the law school’s Governor Richard B. Ogilvie Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public.

“Truth from Youth” is an original performance based on the real-life stories of urban teens, immigrants and working-class Chicagoans. Albany Park Theater Project is renowned for its blend of intense honesty with resilient hopefulness, and for its integration of the arts, education, and activism. The company performed a well-received limited-run of “Home/Land” at the Goodman Theatre in July 2013.

“Truth from Youth” at IIT Chicago-Kent is the Albany Park Theater Project’s only Chicago-area performance this fall. The performance will be followed by a special conversation with the teen cast members and the directors of the company.

Albany Park Theater Project is a multiethnic, youth theater ensemble founded in 1997 that inspires people “to envision a more just and beautiful world.” The company engages youth as thoughtful and imaginative artists, launching teens on purposeful lives as adventurous dreamers and accomplished achievers. APTP humanizes issues that impact real people but too often get discussed as abstract concepts. The company enriches the cultural vitality and quality of life in the Albany Park neighborhood and Chicago.

IIT Chicago-Kent’s Institute for Law and the Humanities was created to facilitate, support and encourage symposia, lectures, scholarship, and faculty discussion on the relationship between law and other humanistic disciplines. It provides opportunities for faculty and students to integrate humanities-based studies with the study of law and to explore the increasingly rich and diverse scholarship in areas such as legal philosophy, legal history, law and literature, and law and religion.
