IIT Chicago-Kent Professor and leading First Amendment scholar Steven J. Heyman will address the topic “Conservative Libertarianism and the Transformation of First Amendment Jurisprudence” during the 2014 Constitution Day Lecture from 3-4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. The program will be held at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in Room 520 at Downtown Campus located at 565 West Adams Street.
Heyman’s lecture will explore the impact of conservative libertarian ideology on the First Amendment. His lecture will be followed by a brief response by Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Institute on the Supreme Court of the United States Christopher W. Schmidt and an open audience discussion.
This program is part of IIT Chicago-Kent’s observance of Constitution Day. In 2004, Congress passed legislation requiring that every institution of higher education that receives federal funds hold an educational program about the Constitution on September 17, the day delegates to the Constitutional Convention met in Philadelphia in 1787 to sign the completed Constitution.
