IIT College of Architecture Associate Professor George Schipporeit Has Passed Away

It is with great sadness that IIT College of Architecture announces the passing of Associate Professor George Schipporeit, who also once served as Chair and Dean of the College of Architecture Planning and Design. He also was the Director of the Sustainable New Cities Graduate Program.

Schipporeit had a long history with IIT, dating back to 1955 when he was a student at IIT. He began teaching with the Department of Architecture in 1980. In addition, he was the Founder and Principal of Schipporeit, INC. Architects/Planners. His major accomplishments included working in the office of Mies van der Rohe as an apprentice. Schipporeit’s projects included Lake Point Tower, State National Bank Plaza, Middlebury Village, Sheffield Village, Asbury Plaza, 3 O’Hare Towers, State Superior Plaza and American Plaza.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, September 7 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home located at 10045 Skokie Boulevard in Skokie.
