IIT Professor Emeritus Barry Bernstein recently passed away at the age of 83. Bernstein taught for more than 40 years at IIT as a professor of Mathematics and Chemical Engineering. Bernstein is well known for his part in the development of the widely used mathematical model for the behavior of polymer melts and bulk polymers. This mathematical model is known as BKZ (Bernstein, Kearsley and Zapas).

Barry is survived by his wife Judy, children and grandchildren.
