IIT Student Miriam Schmid Receives Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award

IIT student Miriam Schmid was one of 53 students who received the Lincoln Academy’s Student Laureate Award. Schmid, who is a senior pursuing a degree in Biochemistry and a certification in Mathematics and Science Education, was honored at the annual Student Laureate Convocation at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in Springfield on November 2, 2013. She received a medallion, along with a $1,000 educational grant and a certificate of achievement.

The Lincoln Academy’s Student Laureate Awards are presented for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities to seniors from each of the state’s four-year, degree-granting higher education institutions, as well as a student from the community colleges in Illinois.

Schmid is the recipient of an IIT Leadership Scholarship and has been on the Dean’s List each semester, and is a leader in campus organizations including serving as a Chief Justice for the Student Government Association, a tutor for the Academic Resource Center, Resident Advisor, President of Union Board, an active member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and a Greek Council executive board member.
