Illinois Tech Hawk Abby Jahn Soars to Awards

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2012 Women’s Cross Country All-Americans, honoring the top individual finishers at the 33rd Annual NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championships held on November 17 at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash, including IIT’s Abby Jahn.

IIT had two outstanding female runners this fall and both earned an invitation to race against the nation’s best in Vancouver. Sophomore Abby Jahn (Wasilla, Alaska) rose to the occasion and finished in the top 30 with 320 total runners participating. With that finish, Jahn added some heavy hardware to her collection.

Not only did Jahn earn the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women’s Runner of the Week three separate weeks this fall, she was named the CCAC Runner of the Year after running and winning the CCAC Conference meet on November 3 at Dellwood Park. She posted a school-record time of 17:33.76 to win the 5K race. She used a late charge to surpass the rest of the 115-person field in capturing her first individual league crown on Saturday edging out University of St. Francis’ Hilary Halford by three-tenths of one second, 17:33.76-17:34.13.
