Illinois Tech to Add Men’s and Women’s Tennis

The Illinois Institute of Technology announces the addition of two new varsity athletic programs. Men’s and Women’s Tennis will join Illinois Tech’s athletic lineup in the 2017-2018 school year.

“Bringing tennis back as a varsity program for both men and women makes a lot of sense for us,” said Athletic Director Joe Hakes. “The club program has been very active and successful and tennis was a strong program here in the past. We look forward to the next generation of young men and women who will represent us on the courts in the coming years.”

Illinois Tech expects to hire a head coach for the two programs in the summer of 2017. The Scarlet Hawks will join a large group of NCAA Division III institutions with tennis sponsorships. As of 2013-14, 329 men’s programs and 376 women’s programs competed at the Division III level.

The addition of both tennis programs will bring the number of Illinois Tech varsity sports to 18.
